Simnica Zekir (62 years old) was found to have macular edema due to which his vision deteriorated. Macular edema is a condition of swelling of the part of the eye that is responsible for forming the central image in the eye. This condition, depending on its severity, is treated with injections or vitrectomy surgery. In Simnica, the condition was treated with the application of Aflibercept injections.

“For the first time in 2016, I had a basic examination with Dr. Ilir Osmani, because I had a problem with eye allergies. It was determined that I actually had blepharoconjunctivitis or infection and after using the therapy prescribed by my doctor, the condition calmed down and everything was fine. In 2018, redness appeared on my eye, and I, thinking that it was an allergy again, put on the drops I had at home, without consulting the doctor, and my eye calmed down. But soon after, when I was on vacation with my co-workers, every time I went in or out of the water, I felt pain in my eye. When I came back from vacation I saw that something was wrong, and I went for an examination where they confirmed that I had to check my left eye. After doing all the necessary tests, I was diagnosed with macular edema and was told that it should be treated with injections into the eye. In the meantime, I received a second opinion from a doctor in Germany, who told me that the situation was serious. Considering that I had a very good experience with Dr. Ilir in the past, I called Sistina Ophthalmology and made an appointment. When I came here, the doctor told me the same diagnosis and I decided to continue with the Aflibercept injections here at Sistina Ophthalmology. After the second injection my condition improved, but to keep my eyesight and my condition stable, I am here today to receive the tenth injection. The doctor is a professional in every sense of the word and I am very pleased.”
