Sistina Ophthalmology is the only private eye clinic that offers the opportunity for specialization in ophthalmology and practical training abroad with the possibility of employment after successful completion of the specialization.

The specialization, according to the choice of the trainee, can take place through the University Clinic “Svjetlost” in Zagreb or the University in Stip.

The specialization in ophthalmology lasts 4 years in which period the trainee goes through rotations from all areas of ophthalmology and acquires skills for proper communication with patients.

During the specialization, the trainee gains practical experience and knowledge while working with his / her mentor in the outpatient clinic and operating room – from patient examinations and diagnostic tests to establishing accurate diagnoses and treatment of eye conditions, preparing the patient for surgery and attending surgery all the way to postoperative monitoring of the condition and care of the patients.

The trainee is rotated during the specialization to gain comprehensive knowledge and experience in cataract surgery, posterior segment surgery – vitrectomy, laser diopter correction, strabismus surgery, pediatric surgery, treatment of posterior segment of the eye, ocular eye, laser treatment of the anterior and posterior segment of the eye, etc.

In addition to the practical experience and knowledge in the clinic, the trainees attend lectures at a university of their choice to complete the practical and theoretical part. After passing the final specialist exam, the trainee acquires the title of specialist in ophthalmology and optometry.
